Improving Psychosocial Wellbeing in Affected Communities
Psychosocial support sessions are very important in order to speed up the process of recovery and to prevent problems that children may encounter in the future. Activities that help recover children’s interaction with other people in their community increase feelings of belonging and improve self-worth and self-confidence.
In Ash Shamayatayn district of Taizz Governorate, many people are suffering from psychological problems due to the lack of basic necessities, continuous armed-conflicts, the loss of their close ones, and destruction of properties, resulting in severe protection gaps.
Therefore, RDP’s Protection team have gone down to some areas to incorporate the community members in the protection project by selecting some of socially accepted, well behaved and qualified people to conduct group psychosocial support sessions.
From 29th to 30th of June, 2019, our protection team together with the Community Based Protection Networks (CBPNs) conducted 8 psychosocial support sessions for 135 individuals (116 females and 19 males) in three sub-districts (Al-Asabeh, Al-Hadharim, and Adeem) of Ash Shamayatayn district. The sessions have successfully improved psychosocial wellbeing in participants.
