Save Children Before Too Late
Every child is a different kind of flower, and all together, make this world a beautiful garden. However, in my country “Yemen”, the majority of flowers have been wilted because the so-called malnutrition continues to live in almost every child’s body.
Farah is a child at the age of 10 months. She has a lot of pain, and yet cannot be expressed in words, only tears. Farah spent nights and days crying to express her unimaginable suffering from malnutrition. She lives with her parents in Ash Shamayatayn district of Taizz governorate.
Sadly, Farah’s father couldn’t help looking at his daughter suffering like that, but what to do! There is nothing in his hand. Although he is a college graduate, he has not been working ever since the war crisis started. The poor father cannot afford taking his daughter to a health center. However, RDP is there – providing humanitarian aid for the most affected and vulnerable households, especially those who have malnourished children.
Our health workers in Adeem Hadharim health center had taken Farah’s MUAC screening. Her MUAC cm showed 12.1, indicating a Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM case). Our nutritionists provided her with essential nutritional supplements to get a quick recovery. These supplements should be used within a week, and then she has to report back to the same health center for a follow-up.
During three weeks, Farah has become cured. The positive changes over her body can be seen. Her MUAC cm has become 12.9, indicating greater health and better nutritional status. Definitely, we would like to extend our deepest appreciation to WFP’s considerable efforts in assisting us with nutritional supplements for children with MAM cases.
