Rebuilding Hope: The Revival of Najd Al Majmaah Health Center
Amid the chaos in the war-stricken district of Rahabah in Marib governate where thousands have been denied even the most basic health services, the once-abandoned Najd Al Majmaah Health Centre has risen as a beacon of hope. This revitalized facility now serves over 3,000 local host communities and hundreds of displaced households seeking refuge from the ongoing crisis. For years, the health centre remained shuttered, leaving both the host communities and internally displaced persons without access to critical and lifesaving healthcare services. The lack of medical services forced people to undertake arduous journeys for treatment, intensifying the already dire humanitarian challenges.
For a decade, the health centre stood in ruins, devoid of infrastructure, equipment, and personnel. It was a shadow of its former self, unable to fulfill its purpose. However, a timely and targeted intervention by the Emergency Life-Saving Health Response Project, funded by the Yemen Humanitarian Fund (YHF) and implemented by Relief and Development Peer Foundation (RDP), brought it back to life. The comprehensive rehabilitation activities involved repairing the facility and addressing fundamental needs, including the installation of a medical waste incinerator to ensure safe disposal of hazardous materials, a solar power system to provide reliable electricity, and the constructing of ramps at the health facility entrance to ensure accessibility for people with disabilities. Furthermore, the toilets were equipped with supporting bars and other necessary modifications to make them fully accessible for individuals with mobility challenges. These improvements not only restored the facility’s functionality but also ensured that it could serve all members of the community, including the most vulnerable.

Beyond structural repairs, the health center was fully equipped with essential medical supplies and equipment. From basic furniture to advanced laboratory tools, the center was prepared to function efficiently. These improvements have enabled the facility to serve an average of more than 35 patients daily, providing vital care to both the local community and displaced families who previously lacked nearby medical options.
Dr. Ahmed, the lead physician at the health centre, shared his perspective on the transformation: “When I first arrived here, the health centre was in complete disrepair. There were no supplies, no electricity, and no way to safely dispose of medical waste. Patients had to travel for hours to receive even basic care. Thanks to the support from YHF and RDP, we now have a fully functional facility that serves as a salvation for this community. The solar power system ensures we can operate around the clock, and the incinerator allows us to maintain safe and hygienic conditions. This project has not only saved lives but also restored dignity to our community.”
Dr. Ahmed also highlighted the challenges faced by beneficiaries in the area: “The people here have endured so much displacement, poverty, and the constant threat of communicable diseases. Many families cannot afford to travel to distant hospitals, and the lack of healthcare has led to preventable deaths. This health center has become their only hope.”
In the midst of conflict and widespread displacement, the reopening of this health centre symbolises resilience and renewal. It not only delivers life-saving healthcare services but also alleviates some of the immense pressures caused by Yemen’s humanitarian crisis. With consistent medical supplies and reliable services, the center has become a lifeline for many, reducing the burden on families already struggling under the weight of conflict.

The revival of Najd Al Majmaah Health Center is more than just the restoration of a building, it is a symbol of resilience, hope, and the unwavering commitment to humanity in the face of adversity. It stands as a powerful reminder that even in the darkest times, compassion and collective actions can light the way toward healing and recovery.
