Life-saving and sustained WASH services in IDPs collective sites and the hosting communities

Objective:

Improved and sustained access to adequate safe water, sanitation facilities, and hygiene promotion for IDPs and vulnerable host communities in Aslam district of Hajjah governorate. RDP enhanced the living conditions of 8,950 vulnerable beneficiaries of IDPs and host community with special consideration for people with disabilities and elderly people. The project improved their access to safe drinking water, use of latrines, and increased hygiene practices.

Major project activities:

– Conduct community engagement meeting

– Conducted Feasibility study.

– Conducted stakeholders workshop for local authorities.

– Conducted induction workshop for the project team.

– Conducted Baseline survey.

– Announced two tenders for rehabilitation of water scheme/source, construction 20 latrines, and install solar pumping system.

– Established CFM.

– Rehabilitating one water scheme, and one water source based on the technical feasibility study.

– Installing pumping and distribution pipelines with a total length of 15.1 Km, and install 35 water distribution boxes with water meters. Also, construction of a pumping room, and rehabilitation of 3 communal water tanks.

– Rehabilitation of concrete elevated water tank with a total volume of 60 cubic meters, construction 2 water concrete tanks with total volume of 16 cubic meters.

– Supply, and install of solar pumping system with a total power of 34.22 Kw.

– Supply office furniture, printer, and laptop for the water management committee, as well as maintenance tools kit to facilitate the project operation and pipeline extension to new areas to ensure the sustainability of the water scheme.

– Conducted regular field visits throughout the implementation of project activities.

– Distributed basic hygiene kits to 662 HHs in Aslam district of Hajjah Gov.

– Conducted PDM survey after distributing basic hygiene kit.

– Conducted training workshop for 20 community volunteers (15 Men, 5 Women) about community mobilization, delivery of messages on hygiene awareness, and improved hygiene practices to the affected targeted households and water treatment methods at HHs level.

– Community volunteers conducted 387 hygiene awareness sessions, reaching 5,966 individuals. Moreover, provide community volunteers with monthly transportation costs.

– Constructed 20 latrines for 157 individuals to provide them with access to appropriate sanitation facilities including (5 HHs with PwSN and 15 HHs with SAM cases) from IDP and host community.

– Conducted PCM survey after water source rehabilitation and latrine construction.
